Group OneCameroon 1:7 LibyaHosts Libya continued their fine form at the ongoing 4th Futsal championships with a 7-1 thrashing of Cameroon in the ultimate group match at the African Union Hall on Monday.
The host nation were 3-1 up the 18th minute courtesy strikes by Shahout Mohamed, Ismail Eishwan and Mohamed Ibrahim before Cyrille Ndaney pulled one back for Cameroon a minute from half time.
The one-sided match saw the “Greens” dominate the West Africans in every department, a feat they confirmed with four goals in the second half.
Ibrahim and Ismail added one each before Abdel Rahim Rabie and Omran Abdurahim sealed victory later with two strikes.
Cameroon, who needed to avoid a loss to stay in contention, have no chance of progressing to the next stage despite a game in hand.
Libya coach Mato Stankovic commended his team for their wonderful performance, which saw them become the only team to have won all matches so far.
“I am very satisfied with my team’s performance even in the absence of captain Abdallah Nagi (injured) and Rahoma Mohamed (suspended).
“We are ready for any team, and we want to prove to all that we are the best futsal team,” he dared.
Nigeria 1:2 MoroccoMorocco boosted their chances of a next round berth with a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in their Group one clash at Cortuba on Monday.
The Moroccans brushed aside a 1-4 loss to host nation, Libya 24 hours earlier to put up an impressive performance against the struggling Nigerian side to clinch their second win at the championships.
Nigeria, who still remains winless, displayed an improved performance but still fell short of aiding them to the maximum points.
The West Africans play Tunisia in the final group match on Tuesday at the same venue.
Group TwoMozambique 2:2 EgyptDefending champions, Egypt were forced to a two all draw by Mozambique in their Group Two clash at Cortuba on Monday.
The Egyptians, who had been held by Angola to a similar result on Sunday, were searching for a win to consolidate their standings at the pinnacle of the group standings.
Mozambique, confirmed their status as an emerging side in futsal as they matched the defending champions equally.
The South Africans, still have a chance of grabbing a ticket to the last four as they wrapped up the group phase against Angola on Tuesday.
Zambia 8:4 AngolaZambia played their best game and succeeded in grabbing their first win of the campaign thanks to an 8-4 victory over Angola.
Zambia, had conceded 18 goals in their last two games but proved their critics wrong by outclassing Angola at the African Union Hall.
Marques Paulo put Angola in front as early as the third minute but Kenneth Chulu leveled up for Zambia two minutes later before Peter Petulo put the Zambians up for the first time in the tournament a minute later.
Chulu scored two more in the second half while Dennis Makinka, Jackson Musonda and Bernard Bwalya sealed victory.
Jose Antonio Marie, Carlos Moreira were also on target for the 2010 African Cup hosts.
Zambia coach Charles Haalubono praised his team for the performance, which he described as their best at the championship.
“This was the best performance from my team so far. It was evident in our play that we had learnt from our mistakes in the first two games.
“This is a learning process and we hope to improve on that.”
