Kate Bruce-Rosser25Mar08KICKING the winning goal is what Jordan Brown has trained for since he was four.
With a minute to go in the quarter final of the National Futsal championships, all his practice paid off.
The Malvern East youngster broke free to kick the goal that took his indoor soccer team into the semi-finals, 4-3.
It was the first of what should be many unforgettable moments for the rising soccer player.
"I liked soccer a lot because my dad was playing with a team in the park," the 11-year-old said.
"We always had balls around the house, which we'd kick through our legs."
Jordan started going to the local Goal Kick program when he was four and at six was playing soccer competitively.
"My sister Ashley also plays state soccer," he said. "We have played a lot in the park opposite our house."
These days Jordan trains six days a week, is in the Under-13 Super League and hopes to be selected for the Victorian Primary Schools Sports Association team.
In January he made the cut for the Under-11 Victorian futsal team, which came second in the 16-team national finals.
"Futsal is a really fast game," Jordan said.
"I like them both, but I probably prefer outdoor soccer.
It is a little easier to control the ball."
He doesn't watch as much soccer as he would like to "because it's on television after midnight", but he definitely has a "favourite, favourite" team Barcelona.
Jordan is the first junior athlete to be nominated for the 2008 Leader Sports Star Awards.
