MU Trip For 'Hidup Bola' Futsal Carnival Winner


KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 (Bernama) -- The champion of the 3rd Milo 'Hidup Bola' Under 16 Futsal Carnival will earn a 6-day trip to the Theatre of Dreams Old Trafford, Manchester United.

According to Nestle (Malaysia) Berhad's Supply Chain Director Ariffin Buranudeen, the carnival, regarded as the biggest junior futsal event in the country which saw 1,300 teams participating last year, will kick off on April 13 and will culminate in the Grand Final on July 27.

"It is every junior footballers dream to visit a world renowned football club like Manchester United and I hope this alone will motivate and inspire our junior players to give their best.

"Futsal is the latest wave in football and Nestle believes in providing a platform for youngsters to showcase their skills. Over the past two years, the event has been growing tremendously in status and it is our wish to continue organising such events to elevate the standard of football and futsal in particular," said Ariffin at the launch here Saturday.

The preliminary rounds will be held at 14 states and the best 32 teams will qualify for the Grand Finals to be held in Kuala Lumpur on July 27.

Ariffin added that Nestle (Milo) will also work closely with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to find ways and means to initiate a futsal league in the near future.

Meanwhile, former national skipper Datuk Soh Chin Aun or affectionately known as "Towkay" who was part of a team of players who brought immense glory to Malaysian football in the 70s and 80s said futsal is a very important component of an aspiring footballer.

"Playing futsal helps players to build stamina, speed, ball control, quick thinking reflexes and skill. The FAM are in the process of introducing a futsal league," said Chin Aun after launching the carnival here Saturday.
