Sunshine Coast DailyFutsal players exact revenge3 April 2008By
Jon TuxworthWhile the majority of us were munching on confectionery rabbits and eggs over the Easter long weekend, a group of Sunshine Coast futsal players were busy claiming the chocolates at the Pacific Titles in Brisbane.
Competing in the under-11 division against sides from New Zealand, Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales, the team were crowned winners for the third successive year after beating North Brisbane 9-5 in the grand final.
It was sweet revenge for their 8-5 loss to the same team in the group stages, the only loss they have suffered over the three year period.
Coach Steve Enticknap expects plenty of his players to be selected for the Queensland side to contest the national titles in Sydney next January.
“They had to play eight games over three days, including four on the Monday, so that was a great effort,” he said.
“The players show a high level of skill compared to many of the other players in the comp, and their coaching is mainly skills based at this stage.”
Three players – James Enticknap, Josh Keenan and Connor Ward – have featured in the team’s line-up over the last three campaigns.
Also part of the team were Jed Zanos, Jacob Connelly, Riley Darrant, Tom Logan, Zak Nevin’ Fendley and Nikolas Spinthakis’ Taylor.
