The GlebeCome on, get out and play09 Apr 08 MARRICKVILLE PCYC is seeking futsal enthusiasts or beginners for a new mixed competition starting later this month.
Futsal is a form of indoor soccer played on a basketball court-sized floor. Futsal co-ordinator Ben Still said there was already a very popular men's tournament at the Debbie and Abbey Borgia Centre and he hoped the mixed competition would thrive as well.
"Hopefully it is going to be a very fun competition," he said. "There has been a fair amount of demand for women's soccer, and there are a lot of outdoor competitions but not many indoor."
The competition starts on Thursday April 17 and runs for 10 weeks with two weeks of finals.
A minimum of six teams are required but up to 12 could be accommodated.
There are five people per side on the court during a game and for the mixed competition at least two of these must be women.
Mr Still said the game was played in 18-minute halves with rules that were similar to soccer.
He said it was great for fitness and not weather dependent.
"It is very vigorous," he said.
"The social level is really what we are aiming our competition at. "Your fitness doesn't have to be up there but it will improve as the competition goes on."
The games will start from 6.30pm. There are fees for team entry and registration.
Details: 9559 7722.
