Fiji Times Buzzetti fears lack of timeWednesday, April 16, 2008FIJI soccer coach Juan Carlos Buzzetti hopes lady luck is on his side when he takes charge of the national five-a-side team for the Oceania World Cup playoffs to be held in Suva in June.
Buzzetti has not tasted real success for Fiji even though during his time with Vanuatu they excelled in the shortened code. Now he will bank on his South American tricks to do the job for the Fijian side.
Buzzetti was in Suva yesterday and will again watch the weekly games at Laucala today to have a look at players.
"There is a lot to do and time is not on our side," Buzzetti said.
"I have been involved with FUTSAL and it will be interesting to work with the national team."
Top players from around the country will be given a chance to stake their claim in the Fiji FUTSAL side for the.
Labasa's Maciu Dunadamu, Pita Bolaitoga, Dinesh Mudaliar and Mira Sahib who are all district reps will be out to claim a place in the 12-member side.
Fiji Football Association FUTSAL coordinator Jainendra Sukhu said a squad was in place but he would await for one more tournament to be played in Ba next weekend before the final squad is named.
"It will be difficult to name a team of 12 players from the amount of talents we have had," Sukhu said.
He said while in the past Fiji had done well, the national side will be out to go one better.
"We will have a good side but will have to be wary of New Zealand and other Pacific countries,"
Fiji will fancy its chances as giants Australia is not part of Oceania anymore.
However tough competition will come from the likes of New Zealand, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
The playoffs will take place at the Vodafone Arena.
