KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 (Bernama) -- The national futsal squad are working overtime to shore up their defence ahead of the Asian Football Confederation (SFC) futsal championship in Bangkok from May 11 to 18.
Coach P. Balakrishnan said although Malaysia did not drop a match in making the finals, the number of goals the team let in was less than satisfactory.
"We scored 20 goals in three rounds of play but also let in 12," he told Bernama here Saturday.
Balakrishnan said that he had also brought back Mohd Zaidi Yusof and Mohd Fuad Yusof, who had earlier been dropped from the national team, to shore up the defence lineup.
Malaysia are drawn in Group C for the finals in Bangkok together with Lebanon, North Korea and Uzbekistan, who are favoured to top the group.
There are four groups in the tournament and the top two teams from each will make the last eight. The teams that make the semi-finals automatically qualify for FIFA's Futsal World Cup to be held at the end of the year.
