MLS NAMES FORMER GUATEMALAN FUTSAL STRIKER 2002 MVP Los Angeles Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz was selected on Oct. 18, as Major League Soccer's 2002 Most Valuable Player. The Guatemalan striker, who was a member of the Futsal Team that competed at the 2000 FIFA World Championship in Guatemala, scored a league-high 24 goals to pace the Galaxy to the regular season title as well as a spot in the 2002 MLS Cup against the New England Revolution on Oct. 20, in Foxboro, Mass. Ruiz will also lead the Galaxy to battle the host Columbus Crew for this year's Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Oct. 24.
