CHOONG MEK ZHINSAM CHEN, an ardent football fan, had the chance to pit his skills in the Suria FM Celebrity Futsal competition at the Sports Planet in Ampang recently.
“I think futsal is a scaled-down and easier version of football. I can't wait to get into the court and test my dribbling skills alongside the others,” said Chen, product manager of Samsung Mobile.
He was a member of Suria Baik Bangat, one of the eight teams in the competition. The event brought together celebrities, Suria FM deejays, journalists, sponsors' representatives and lucky listeners.
Suria FM Breakfast show deejay Zizi said the event provided him a good workout.
“We also get to meet listeners and catch up with our friends,” Zizi.
Aizul Mohd Ali, a train driver, was excited to meet his favourite deejay.
“The game was really fun. I got the chance meet Myra, my favourite deejay, and so many other celebrities. Playing futsal with all of them was a dream come true,” Aizul.
Surialicious, led by DJ Myra, and Suria Nova qualified for the final. The match ended in a draw and the winners were determined after a shoot-out with Surialicious winning 3-2.
Suria FM chief operating officer Engku Imran Engku Zainal Abidin and Chen presented the prizes (mobile phones, hands-free devices, adidas sponsored t-shirts and medals) to the champions and runners-up.
Ayu, from One in a Million talent reality show, Farah from Akademi Fantasia, Matta Band and Aliff Aziz entertained the crowd.
