Di-ve.comSerbian madness scars futsal game by
Paul Cachia25 April 2008 The shocking scenes at the Corradino Pavilion on Thursday - when the top division futsal final was being played - may have surprised many local football fans. The game was halted seven minutes from the end after the European Pilot Academy - a team made up mostly of Malta-based Serbian men – who were 6-3 down succeeded to cut the deficit.
The trouble started when Serbian fans decided to light up a number of flares indoors and threw them on the pitch.
Seemingly not content enough with this, they also invaded the pitch to celebrate.
Futsal national coach Michal Striz, who was watching on the stands, went to calm them down but all hell broke lose as the hooligans assaulted the Czech Republic coach.
At this point, the police had to intervene and contained the hooligans.
A spokesperson for the police told www.di-ve.com that a number of Serbian people are expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
