Thailand beat Kyrgyztan

by TOR CHITTINAND

Thailand defeated Kyrgyzstan 3-1 in their final preliminary round game at the AFC Futsal (five-a-side) Championship at Nimibutr Gymnasium yesterday. Goals from Anucha Munjaroen, Ekaphan Surasawang and Tanakorn Santanaprasit earned Thailand the top spot in Group A.

Both Thailand and Kyrgyztan had qualified for the quarter-finals after two wins. With yesterday's victory, the hosts avoid powerhouses Japan in the last eight and will meet Australia.

Anucha opened the scoring after 16 minutes. Kyrgyzstan equalised through Emil Kanetov after 31 minutes only for Ekaphan to restore Thailand's lead moments later. Tanakorn put the match beyond any doubt.

Thailand coach Jose Maria Mendez said he would not underestimate Australia, an experienced side who have played in the World Championship.

In the other matches, Japan defeated Australia 4-2, Iran trounced Tajikistan 14-0, Indonesia beat Iraq 5-4, Uzbekistan beat Lebanon 5-1, Malaysia beat South Korea 4-3 while China whitewashed Kuwait 9-0
