Thailand in final

Thailand stormed into the final of the AFC Futsal (five-a-side) Championship after thrashing China 7-3 at Nimibutr Gymnasium yesterday.

In tomorrow's final, the Thais will meet powerhouses Iran who edged out defending champions Japan 1-0 in the other semi-final. The semi-finalists qualify for the World Championship.

Thailand romped to a comfortable 3-0 lead after just 14 minutes and were 5-1 ahead at half-time. Although the Chinese fought back spiritedly in the second half, Thailand proved too strong and ended up 7-3 winners.

It is the first time that Thailand have reached the final of the AFC Championship and they will be underdogs against the Iranians.

Thailand coach Jose Maria Mendez said his men would have a daunting task against Iran who are another level above the Thais.
