The final between MVFC Berettyóújfalu and Goldball RFC Csömör began on the 19th of May. The semi-finals were played in the previous weeks, with two pairings quite different.
Csömör, which won the league in the 2003-2004 season, had the easier task in reaching the final. They ended the regular season in the second position, so that they had to play against the third classified Szentes. The first game in Csömör saw the hosts winning in an impressive way, with a 6-0 score. The second game, the easier: 9-0 result in favour of the "yellow" ones.
Krisztián Somogyi, the coach of the winning side said after the return match:
“I’m very glad: we played very well and in attractive way for the whole match”.
More balanace in the second pairing, with the regular season leader MVFC Berettyóújfalu starting the series at home, against Euro-Mobil-Trans Ikrény. It was a very good game, with so many tactical skills. The Ikrény side (as well as MVFC Berettyóújfalu) has five national team players, who joined the club in past January this year. An unusual 0-0 was the score at the end of the 40th minute, no goals neither in the extra time with the visitors and Hungary keeper Gyula Tóth in impressive form. The home team then got the victory just at the end of a 7-6 dramatic penalty series.
In the second match the home team led the way scoring after sixteen minutes. MVFC tried everything to win the game in the second game, with Gyula Tóth as good as in the first match for the hosts. Five minutes before the end Tamás Nagy scored for MVFC Berettyóújfalu, followed by his team mate János Trencsényi’s goal. The hosts had to attack now, but all of their chances were missed, while the visitors could score two more goals, celebrating the access to the final.
András Szilágyi, owner of Euro-Mobil-Trans said:
“We had many injured and missing players, so we got tired. After leading 1-0, we had chances to score more, but we did not do it. I think our opponents will win the championsip. This season is unforgettable for us, considering that this is our first appearance in first division.”
Róbert Szitkó, trainer of Mezei-Vill FC: “I’m very glad about the result. Our equalizing goal went after a situation that we tried a lot during our training sessions. Congratulations to my team, we showed that we can win a match in which we are not playing very well.”
