Futsal League Kicks Off

San Diego Futsal League began its inaugural season Saturday with Who There, Futsal Fury, Liverpool Futsal 15, Liverpool Futsal 14 and FCSD-North all registering season-opening victories.

All 11 squads will have a one-week hiatus as they split up for personal Memorial Day activities. League play will resume on June 8, although the squads will hit the hardwood for the Second Annual Futsal Tournament on June 1. Registration is still available for teams looking to find soccer's “hidden secret,” one of futsal's many pseudonyms. The game refines players' skills as it gives athletes the opportunity to be involved on every play. The game also creates more scoring opportunities.

“There were so many goals scored and so many roars from the spectators,” instructor/organizer Mario Mrakovic said of the first games.

Mrakovic’s 5-year-old son scored the first San Diego Futsal League goal.
