Good response to recruitment drive for new season

By NG WEI LOON

THE fifth edition of the Subang Jaya Community Girls' Futsal League (SJCGFL), organised by the Subang Jaya Community Sports Club (SJCSC) will have a new base.

The tournament which was hosted at the Rio de Futsal for the past two years, will be shifting to HTO de Futsal at Kawasan Perindustrian Subang Jaya for the annual meet scheduled from June 7 to Aug 3.

SJCGFL co-ordinator K. Sundraraj said they had to look for a new location because the previous venue had closed down.

“The new venue is suitable because it is convenient for the players in Subang Jaya,” he added.

The organisers are expecting a bigger turnout of 100 youngsters aged between six and 18 years for the upcoming league.

Last year, a total of 91 players were in the fray.

“So far, almost 50 players have filled up the slots within the first 15 days of registration. Players who had taken part were eager to return to join the league. Parents and volunteers are also coming forward to support the event. Usually, the fathers will take on the role of coaches while the mothers will serve as team managers,” Sundraraj said, adding that they also conducted a recruitment drive at the league’s one-day tournament at Alice Smith Secondary School in Equine Park, Seri Kembangan on Sunday.

For the SJCGFL, four teams each will feature in three divisions – Major (six to 10 years), Senior (11 to 13 years) and Premier (14 to 18 years).

The Major and Senior divisions will compete in a six-a-side competition while the Premier division teams will play in the five-a-side format.

For their weekly kickabout throughout the league, each team will go through the paces in training for 45 minutes as well as another 45 minutes of match play.

“The matches will be decided over four quarters.

“Each player is required to play at least half a match,” Sundraraj added.

The entry fee is RM125 each for SJCSC members and RM160 for non-members.

The fee will include court charges, playing stripes, awards and prize-giving celebration.

The final registration will be held at the playing venue on June 7, followed by an hour of skills assessment to evaluate the players and assign them to form teams with equal playing strength.
