CONCACAF.comUSA open Group B with victory over Haiti; Panama tie Costa Rica3.6.08 - The USA opened Group B of the 2008 CONCACAF Futsal Championship with a 5:3 victory over Haiti at the Domo Polideportivo in Guatemala City, Guatemala on Tuesday.
After Edouard Voltaire gave Haiti the lead in the third minute, the USA answered with goals by Denison Cabral (4th), Sandre Naumoski (10th) and Jamar Beasley (16th) to take a 3:1 advantage going into halftime.
Voltaire scored his second in the 25th minute, but Carlos Farias added the USAs fourth goal in the 34th minute. Eliacin Rigardens goal for Haiti in the 35th minute made it 4:3, but Matthew Stewart closed out the scoring for the USA with two minutes remaining.
In an earlier encounter, goals by Alquis Alvarado (3rd), Apolinar Galvez (5th), Gilberto Rangel (10th) and Augusto Harrison (16th) gave Panama 4:0 lead in the first half.
After Luis Paniaga got Costa Rica on the board just before halftime, the Ticos scored five consecutive times to take a 6:4 lead.
The Canaleros tied the encounter with goals from Miguel Lasso (36th) and Galvez (37th) for the 6:6 final score.
The 2008 CONCACAF Futsal Championship continues on Tuesday evening with Group A at the Domo Polideportivo when Cuba meet Mexico and Guatemala hosts Trinidad & Tobago.

CONCACAF.comGuatemala top Trinidad & Tobago in Group A encounter; Mexico draw against Cuba4.6.08 - Guatemala topped Trinidad & Tobago by a score of 5:0 in a Group A encounter at the 2008 CONCACAF Futsal Championship at the Domo Polideportivo in Guatemala City on Tuesday evening.
Jose Rafael Gonzalez scored twice, while Manuel Aristondo, Marlon Noj and Daniel Tejada each added another for the Chapines in their first victory in a CONCACAF Tournament since they defeated El Salvador, 3:2, on 31 August 1996 in Guatemala City.
In the other group encounter, Mexico played to a 2:2 draw against Cuba for the first time in a CONCACAF Futsal Tournament. Eduardo Morales had two both goals for the Leones del Caribe, while Victor Omar Quiroz and Israel Santoyo scored for the Tricolores.
The 2008 CONCACAF Futsal Championship continues on Wednesday with four encounters at the Domo Polideportivo. Haiti meet Costa Rica, while Panama take on the USA in Group B matches early in the day, while later Trinidad & Tobago face Cuba and then Guatemala host Mexico.
