GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala - Pacific alumnus Nick Vorberg '98 and the United States Futsal team won their first match in the CONCACAF Futsal Tournament.
The U.S. won 5-3 over Haiti in a Group B match. Other teams in the group include Costa Rica and Panama, who played to a 6-6 draw earlier in the day. The top-three teams in the Tournament will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup, to be played in 2008 in Brazil.
This is Vorberg's second major international competition with the National Team. Last summer, Nick participated in the 2007 Pan American Games where the US placed fifth. Vorberg currently makes his home in Wisconsin where he plays for the Milwaukee Wave of the recently-defunct Major Indoor Soccer League. The Grants Pass, Ore., native played for Pacific for four years, between 1993 and 1997, and is Pacific's career leader in saves, shutouts, wins, and goals against average.
