Four teams advance to semifinals

6.6.08 - Cuba, Panama, USA and the hosts, Guatemala advanced to the semifinals of the 2008 CONCACAF Futsal Championship at the Domo Polideportivo in Guatemala City on Thursday.
The USA finished first in Group B after defeating Costa Rica, 6:2 on Wednesday, while Panama earned took second in the group following a 4:0 victory over Haiti.

In Group A, Cuba and Guatemala took the top spots after they played to a 3:3 tie and earned their semifinal berths. In the other group match, Mexico defeated Trinidad & Tobago by a score of 7:3.

Cuba (+7) and Guatemala (+5) finished ahead of Mexico (+4) on goal difference after all three teams concluded group play tied with five points each.

The 2008 CONCACAF Futsal Championship continues on Saturday with the semifinals at the Domo Polideportivo when Cuba meet Panama and then the USA take on Guatemala.

The two finalists will not only play for the CONCACAF Championship on Sunday in Guatemala City, but will also qualify to the FIFA Futsal World Cup Brazil 2008. Prior to the final, the two losing semifinalists will compete in the third-place match for the last CONCACAF berth to the FIFA event.
