Times 24Lady Citizens beaten by Watford in Futsal Cup Final10 June 2008WGC Ladies were beaten 4-1 by Watford Ladies in the first ever Herts FA Women's Futsal Cup Final.
In a replay of the 11-a-side county cup final, which Watford won 3-2, it was the West Herts side that again lifted the cup.
Four teams took part in the 5-a-side competition at Longdean Sportspace centre in Hemel Hempstead.
Moving straight into the semi-final stage, Hemel Hempstead Town Ladies, Leverstock Green Ladies, Watford Ladies and Welwyn Garden City Ladies contested for the right to be called Futsal champions of Hertfordshire.
The Lady Citizens stormed to a crushing 10-0 win against Leverstock Green, who despite some excellent play were unable to get past Welwyn's highly-rated goalkeeper Verity Crook.
The other semi saw Hemel Hempstead Town lose 4-2 to Watford Ladies in an extremely close game.
In the high tempo final, two goals from Emma Thomas and further strikes from Helen Lander and Jo Rutherford were enough for Watford to take the trophy home in a 4-1 victory.
Watford will now travel to Sheffield in July to defend the FA Women's Futsal Cup that they won last year.
Hertfordshire FA Football Development Officer Joe Goude was delighted with the competition's debut.
She said: "It's been a great night and fantastic to see some of the best women's teams in the county trying something new that can benefit them as footballers.
