The Star On LineFutsal tourney a platform to discover young playersWednesday June 11, 2008FORMER football international Serbegeth Singh, or fondly known as Shebby, was invited to join in the Malacca Gujarati Youth Council (MGYC) GPL Futsal Tournament recently.
The MGYC is a friendship and travel-based group aimed at fostering greater interaction among the Malacca Gujarati youths from near and far.
Shebby was impressed with the participation from all age groups.
“I would like to congratulate MGYC for their active involvement in the community and their ability to foster friendship among fellow Gujaratis through sports.”
“I’m surprised that there are many hidden talents in MGYC that are yet to be discovered,” said Shebby.
One such hidden talent is Jaysel Timbadia, 11, who managed to catch Shebby’s eyes with his dribbling capabilities and futsal skills.
“I am interested and willing to further guide this young MGYCian to excel in this sport and be a great sportsman in the years to come,” added Shebby.
Since its establishment, MGYC has organised many trips and the group has grown larger with every trip, every year.
In 2004, a trip to Lang Tengah was organised with 21 people. A year later, 19 of them went on a trip to Bangkok and in 2006, a record of 42 people went to Phuket. The group grew larger not through invitation but through word of mouth among friends.
