Fiji LiveFiji’s Hassan tops FUTSAL score sheetJune 14, 2008Fiji striker Kamal Hassan finished as the top goal scorer in the 2008 OFC FUTSAL Championship which ended at Suva’s Vodafone Arena tonight.
The sublime Rewa striker was in devastating form for the hosts from Day one of the tournament and scored in every match for his team, finishing with a tally of 14 goals after getting his final two in Fiji’s 4-1 win in the last match of the tournament against New Zealand this evening.
Hassan the vice captain of the Fijian outfit dazzled his oppositions in the competition with his silky footwork and lethal right foot.
“I am really happy to finish as the top goal scorer and thank my team mates for setting up the goals which I scored in the tournament.
“ Its an awesome feeling to finish on top and this achievement is something which I will always cherish in life and it just feels great to win this award for Fiji” he said.
“Scoring 4 goals against Solomon Islands, the eventual winners of the tournament is also something which I see as an achievement as Solomon Islands were unarguably the best team in the tournament” added Hassan.
Tournament sponsor, Vodafone awarded Hassan with a mobile phone package as his token for topping the goal scoring list.
Fiji finished fifth in the tournament with three wins (New Caledonia 4-2, Tuvalu 13-2 and New Zealand 4-1) and three losses (6-11 Solomon Islands, 2-5 Vanuatu and 2-9 Tahiti).
Solomon Islands topped the championship and will represent Oceania in the FUTSAL World Cup in September in Brazil.
