FUTSAL tourney down to the wire

June 14, 2008

Oceania’s representative to the FUTSAL World Cup will be decided after the end of the final day’s play in the 2008 OFC FUTSAL Championships in Suva tonight.

Top guns Vanuatu and Solomon Islands are tied at 12 points and their final match results will determine the top qualifier.

Competition for the top is expected to go down to the wire and Vanuatu has a slight advantage of a better goal difference.

However, Solomon Islands will play a weaker Tuvalu outfit and can net a big margin to top the table while Vanuatu faces a strong Tahitian outfit, which will also be out to win to be in the run.

Tahiti has 10 points and a win will net the Polynesians 13 points.

Currently Vanuatu has a superior goal difference of 22 while Solomon Islands has 10 and needs to net in more than 12 goals against Tuvalu and hope Vanuatu loses to Tahiti or wins by a narrow margin.

In the exciting matches this evening, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu feature first, followed by Vanuatu vs Tahiti and host nation Fiji plays the final match of the tournament against New Zealand.
