The StarResidents question why they can’t use RM80,000 futsal courtby
STUART MICHAELALTHOUGH there is an outdoor futsal court in the village of Ladang Baru, Sungai Buloh, youngsters in the area still have to rent space elsewhere whenever they want to play the game.
The futsal court in their village has been under lock and key since last year.
According to residents, the facility was built at a cost of RM80,000 and the project was awarded by the previous state government to Ladang Baru Umno leaders.
Ladang Baru Sungai Buloh PKR branch chairman Yusof Ali said he learned that the RM80,000 was paid in full to the contractor although the project had yet to be completed.
“It is a ridiculous sum to pay for a cement futsal court without any floodlights and futsal nets. It is a waste of public funds,” he said.
To make things worse, he said, the court was abandoned without any maintenance especially after floods in the area.
“Mud and silt cover the court after downpours.
“Even the paint on the fencing is fading and the futsal court has not been used at all,'' he said.
Yusof said youth in the area were willing to pay money to book futsal courts some 10km away even though the court is located a few doors away from their houses.
“I urge the contractor responsible to come forward and provide the keys to the court. It would be good if they can finish the job as well.
“I will make a police report at the Sungai Plong police station and will be contacting the Anti- Corruption Agency to look into this matter,” said Yusof, who took StarMetro on a visit to the futsal court recently.
