CONCACAF teams receive group assignments for FIFA Futsal World Cup

10.7.08 - The CONCACAF qualifiers Cuba, Guatemala and USA received their group assignments following the draw for the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2008 was held on 9 July in Brasilia, Brazil.
Cuba, who are making a CONCACAF record fourth consecutive appearance at the FIFA Futsal World Cup, were drawn into Group A along with Japan, Russia, Solomon Islands and the hosts, Brazil.

The USA, who have qualified to a CONCACAF best fifth Futsal Tournament, will compete in Group B against Italy, Paraguay, Portugal and Thailand.

The CONCACAF Champion, Guatemala, who are in their second FIFA event, are in Group C that includes Argentina, China, Egypt and Ukraine.

Rounding out the first round groups are Czech Republic, Iran, Libya, Uruguay and the defending champion Spain in Group D.

The sixth edition of the FIFA Futsal World Cup, which will run from 30 September – 19 October, will have a record 20 teams competing in four groups of five. The top two from each group will advance to the second round group phase, which will ultimately decide the four semifinalists.
