Futsal tournament to be held in Gozo

After the tremendous interest Futsal has generated in Malta we have felt the need to organise the first Futsal tournament on our sister island. Although five-a-side football is already quite popular in Gozo - with over 15 artificial turf pitches - Futsal is something new to the Gozitians.

The first edition of the Sportika Futsal tournament is being held at the Victoria Sports Complex at the end of August. The tournament will spread over 3 days and will kick off at 17:00 on the 29th August and will come to an end on the 31st August 2008 at around 15:00 and will be open to both Gozitian and Maltese five-a-side football teams. Sixteen teams will be competing divided into 4 groups with the winner and runner up of each group qualifying to the knock-out stage. The four quarter finals, the two semi-finals and the final will all be played on Sunday and will be filmed by Melita Sports.

On the final day, nursery children and female footballers will be play exhibition matches. Fun games like a penalty shoot-out and a crossbar challenge will also be organised on the final day. Trophies and cash prizes amounting to euro 1,000 will be presented to winners and runners-up at the end of the tournament.
