THE 2008 Guam Football Association Men’s Futsal League began regular season action last Saturday with a triple header held at the Guam Sports Complex in Harmon. Quality took to the court against the Strykers in the first of three matches.

Ten seconds into the match, the Strykers’ Christian Dickson knocked in his team’s first goal to take the 1-0 lead over Quality. However, David Manibusan shocked the Strykers as he went on to complete a hat trick for Quality in the first half with goals in the 23rd, 20th and 19th minute that gave his squad the two goal advantage, 3-1.

Alan Jamison later scored a goal on the Stryker defense to stretch Quality’s lead to three goals. In response, the Strykers’ Hiro Asoshina scored back-to-back goals in the 14th and ninth minute to bring his team within a single goal at the half, 4-3.

Through the first eight minutes of the second half, Quality once again extended their advantage as Byung Suob Choi and Manibusan each scored a goal to double the Strykers total points earned. Asoshina scored his third goal in the 11th minute, which pulled the Strykers back to within two goals of their opponents.

A minute later, Quality’s Paul Long scored his team’s seventh and final goal. With time winding down, Asoshina knocked in his fourth and fifth goals to pull back within one goal of Quality. Sadly for the Strykers, they were unable to score a game tying goal in the final five minutes as Quality survived a comeback scare to take the 7-6 victory.

Crushers Orange vs. Cobras
In a battle of youth versus experience, the seasoned Crushers Orange went heads up against the youthful Cobras.

Ten minutes into the match, Cobra Jan Jason Flores put his team on the scoreboard as his team took the one goal lead over the Crushers. The Crushers’ Halley Sakamoto scored the tying goal a mere 26 seconds later. The Cobras held a one goal lead at the half after Ashton Surber booted a goal in with 1:41 remaining.
Right out of the gates, the Crushers strung together two quick goals from Earvin Martinez and Sakamoto. Over the next eight minutes, the Crushers’ Camden Aguon, Edwin Cruz and Sakamoto put together a run of three more goals to take the 6-2 lead. Surber managed to score his team’s third goal with two minutes remaining, but Cruz scored one final goal for the Crushers as they one a highly physical match, 7-3.

In the final match of the evening, Inter FC won their match against the Islanders via forfeit.
