International Vikings Futsal Cup

The International Vikings Futsal Cup will be played at QEII Park Stadium, August 8-10th 2008. The event will involve 150 athletes and officials including 110 from outside of New Zealand.
This event has will see the Vikings New Zealand Mens side take on, Chengdu from China along with Australian state sides, North Queensland, South Queensland, Victoria and the Australian Barbarians made up of players from South Australia, Tasmania and NSW.
Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province that suffered the terrible
earthquake earlier this year.
The womens section will see the IROK Philipines take on Vikings New Zealand, Northern Australia and Southern Australia. Australia are using this event to select their National womens side to contest the Womens world cup in Spain later this year.
The Philippines are on a high after finishing 3rd at the ASEAN games at the end of 2007 while the New Zealand womens side will be making their first appearance since 2005.
An official welcome will be held at QEII Park stadium from 7pm on August 7th and will include a celebrity Futsal game which will feature the likes of former Black Caps Shane Bond, Geoff Allot and Warren Wiseneski along with former Otago and Scottish rugby international Brendan "Chainsaw" Laney, Canterbury Siren Toni Edmondson, Canterbury Ram Rewi Manahi, former Black Stick Michelle Hollands and Canerbury Tactix netball players.
The entire event including the celebtiry game, is free for spectators to come along and watch. The event will be televised by CTV productions and shown on TV here in New Zealand and in Australia and will showcase some of ther best Futsal ever seen in New Zealand.
