The recent "troubles" experienced by the (boring) soccer world in the tournament included in the
Olympic Games of Beijing were also faced and commented by the FIFA president
Josep Blatter. We're referring to the fact that some clubs could "call back" their players, allowed by the recent
CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) sentence.
Have a look at this extract from the Canadian sport portal
TSN:
"If all the national squads will lose players, if clubs force them to return home, we simply will not have an Olympic football tournament here in Beijing," Blatter said. "We could do beach soccer or a five-a-side tournament. That would be very sad and the world would not understand it."As always in life, everything seems a matter of points of view:
1) No more soccer in the Olympic Games? Sad and hard to understand? Don't worry Josep, we would understand it! We'd love such a decision!
2) Beach soccer or five-a-side? (the sport previously known as futsal) Futsal! Ehm, five-a-side...
Seriously, are these declarations good for the future of futsal and its chances to be included in the Olympic Games? Definitely not, as they confirm the fact that just one FIFA sport can be there, and the disciplines which are described as "soccer ramifications" are destined to hope in some soccer "serious trouble" .
