Umbro International Futsal Cup 2008 Results and Analysis

The first Umbro International Futsal Cup in Manchester provided an excellent showcase of English Futsal and all clubs competing showed great commitment and desire over the weekend to become the first Umbro International Futsal Cup winners. Played in a perfect environment and vibrant atmosphere all teams hailed the tournament a great success and organisers Manchester Futsal Club can be proud of their efforts in staging the first international Futsal tournament in the UK.

The Umbro International Futsal Cup 2008 winners were Kickers Futsal Club who came through Group B to defeat London Brazil United in a comprehensive 6-0 victory. The final displayed an abundance of Brazillian flair from the two London clubs but it was Kickers who dominated from the opening minute when they took the lead. London Brazil United rallied but were fatigued following their narrow 2-1 victory against Manchester Futsal Club in the semi’s where the hosts and Group A winners failed to capitalize on their early form.

So Kickers Futsal Club are the first Umbro International Futsal Cup winners and celebrated in style at the final whistle with their coach Rogerio de Oliveira.

The experienced gained from staging the tournament and its success means that the Umbro International Futsal Cup can become a regular date on the European and Worldwide Futsal calendar. Tournament Director Simon Wright commented on the tournament’s future direction “There are a lot of positives to take from this year’s event and we will certainly be back next year with the Umbro International Futsal Cup 2009 where we will offer a format that will attract more Futsal clubs from around the world to Manchester. We’ve had a great weekend and can’t wait to start planning for next year!”
