The Star On LineN-Day futsal carnivalThe Petaling Jaya Hockey Stadium will be the venue for the Petaling Jaya Merdeka Unity Futsal carnival on Aug 30 and 31.
The futsal carnival is organised by Sports- Unite with Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) providing the facilities and logistics for the event.
The carnival is unique and will kick off at 10am on Aug 30. The carnival will take a break to raise the Jalur Gemilang at midnight. The finals are expected to be played at about 1.30am on Aug 31.
Eight futsal courts will be set up on the hockey pitch. The organisers are expecting a maximum 240 teams for the four categories — boys under-12, boys under-18, men and women’s open.
All teams are encouraged to register players from at least two races to promote the spirit of unity to celebrate the National Day.
The top four teams in each category will receive attractive prizes in the form of cash, medals and products from Milo, Figos and SportsUnite.
Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamed Roslan Sakiman is confident that the carnival will receive encouraging response from futsal enthusiasts.
“We can expect participants from not only the Petaling Jaya community but also other parts of the Klang Valley.
“It is a great way to celebrate the National Day in a sporting environment,’’ said Mohamed Roslan after the sponsorship ceremony.
