THE 2008 Guam Football Association Men’s Futsal League ended its third week of action with a triple-header of games held last night at the Agat Gymnasium. In the first match of the evening scheduled for 6:15 p.m., Inter FC took on the Strykers.

Through the first seven minutes of action, both teams engaged in quick paced and highly physical play; however, it was the defense of both squads that held tough as the game remained without a scored goal. Shortly after, Inter FC’s Seung Min Lee booted in the first score of the match to give his team a 1-0 lead over the Strykers.
Two minutes later, the Strykers’ Hiro Asoshina responded by blazing the game tying goal past the Inter FC goalkeeper. Match play shifted back to the high powered defensive battle for the next eight minutes until Inter FC’s Yu Tanabe scored consecutive goals in the 8th and 7th minute that gave his team a 3-1 advantage over the Strykers.

In the final minute of the first half, Masaya Kawauchi scored his first goal of the match to pull his Strykers team within one goal of Inter FC, but still trailed 3-2 at the half. Asoshina wasted little time as he scored his second goal of the night a mere two minutes into the second half to keep his Strykers within one goal of Inter FC.

In the 19th minute, Asoshina completed his hat trick with a goal that put his team ahead, 4-3. However, Inter FC’s Yuki Kuba and Tanabe managed to put together a two-goal swing to reclaim the lead, 5-4, with 15 minutes left in the game. Asoshina scored his fourth goal in the 13th minute, only to have the tie broken again with another Kuba goal.

Asoshina scored the final two goals of the match in the eighth and third minute to seal the comeback victory over Inter FC, 7-6. With a game high six goals, Asoshina almost single handedly carried his team to victory through his offensive prowess.

In the second match of the evening, the Yamasa Cobras demolished the Islanders, 7-2. The GFA Men’s Futsal League will continue on Saturday beginning at 5 p.m. at the Guam Sports Complex in Harmon.
