Though
Austrian Futsal is experiencing a little bit of disappointment these days due to the missed qualification of
1. Futsal Club Xion Graz to the UEFA Futsal Cup main round, after losing the decisive match vs the latvian side
Nikars, great news are coming from Austria about futsal development.
On 6th June 2008 the
Austrian Futsal Bundesliga (ÖFBL) was established as an official association. The ÖFBL will be responsible for both highest national leagues,
Futsal Bundesliga and
2nd division League, something similar to the spanish LNFS.
It's definitely a good moment for Austrian futsal, as both leagues run in a great way and the previous season was fascinating and entertaining until the end. According of this significant development
Futsal Austria felt the need for an independent body (
ÖFBL) to run both major leagues.
As a result of ÖFBL establishment, Futsal Austria has more capacity to develop Futsal in Austria, with special regard to schools and
women´s futsal. No doubts on the fact that ÖFBL and Futsal Austria have high aims for the next years.
Coming back on the futsal pitch, we have to remind that on August 6th took place in Graz the second edition of the
Austrian Super Cup, which registered one more title for the national Bundesliga champions of
1. Futsal Club Xion Graz. The
Michael Fuchs' guys managed to overcome the Cup winner
Stella Rossa tipp3 competition, and could then celebrate the last title of the 07/08 season.
