UEFA.comGolden start for Finnish contendersThursday 14 August 2008Golden Futsal Team and KMN Gorica were both in the goals as the last UEFA Futsal Cup Preliminary round group to commence began in Finland today.
Golden goalsEspoo-based Golden are staging Group E in Helsinki, and were keen to improve on their only previous entry to the competition five years ago, when they secured one point and conceded 20 goals in their three games. And against competition debutants Saint Patrick's Athletic FC, the Finnish champions led 2-1 at half-time and ended up winning 7-2. KMN Gorica had a happier introduction to European futsal than the Irish side, as up against Maltese newcomers Scandals Futsal FC the Slovenian champions gained an 11-0 victory, having struck six times before the break.
Beverwijk aimFixtures at the Pasilan Sport Hall continue on Saturday, as Gorica meet St Patrick's and Golden face Scandals, with the one Main round qualifier decided the following day. Already through from the completed mini-tournaments are Lithuania's Nautara Kaunas, French champions Roubaix Futsal, Bulgaria's FC Nadin Sofia and Latvian team FK Nikars Riga, the only side so far to progress away from home. A second side will match that feat on Friday as Group F concludes in Germany – and Dutch side Carillon Boys Beverwijk need only avoid a six-goal defeat by FC Betoon Tallinn to ensure they continue their campaign next month rather than the Estonian entrants.
