Chin Aun, Santokh and Dollah to pit their skills in The Star futsal meet

FOOTBALL greats Datuk Soh Chin Aun, Santokh Singh and Dollah Salleh will pit their skills in the invitation category of The Star Editorial futsal tournament at Sports Barn on Saturday.

The trio will be joined by local celebrities Zahid from Akademi Fantasia (AF2) and Nita of Malaysian Idol and national hockey coach Sarjit Singh.

They will be playing in the three- team invitation category. Senior management staff of The Star and sponsors Nestle will also be involved in the event.

The tournament, held for the fifth consecutive year, will also have a kiddies event for the first time.

Organising chairman S. Ramaguru said the kiddies event was for the children of The Star’s editorial staff.

“The idea came about after some parents brought along their children for last year’s tournament. We thought it will be good to have a family day concept for this year’s event,” said Ramaguru.

The main event will comprise teams from the editorial — Business Desk, Metro, Editorial Artists, News, Staric, Photo, On-Line, Editorial Administration, Features, IT Services, invitation team from Nestle and Sports Desk.

The Star Publications group managing director and cheif executive officer Datin Linda Ngiam has been invited to launched the tournament.

Nestle sports marketing manager Ng Ping Loong said it was the fifth consecutive year they had supported the event and felt that the tournament was a good way to foster ties among the staff.

“We are proud to be associated in this healthy activity and hope the organisers will continue the good work,” said Ng.

Nestle have been the main sponsors since the inaugural event in 2004.

The Star group chief editor Datuk Wong Chun Wai welcomed the support of sponsors to make the event a success.

“It is not every time we get to meet as a family besides the normal working hours. The futsal tournament is a good platform to mingle with the staff and have a good time,” said Wong.

The other sponsors are Mamak Bistro (Restoran Tanjung) and Cubic Integrated Group (CIG).

Mamak Bistro sole proprietor Seeni Mohamed Ali said they were delighted to contribute towards the event for the third time.

Cubic Integrated Group (CIG), which manages the Arsenal Soccer Schools Malaysia, have come aboard as a new sponsor.

The general manager of Cubic Integrated Sports and Recreation E. Elavarasan, said they were happy to lend a hand, especially with their objectives to play a role in the development in grassroots.

“We are committed towards the development of children and our target is to provide the platform for the young ones to take up sports,” he said.
