QUEENSLAND VIKINGS COMPETE IN FRENCH ISSY CUP
Youth men’s and women’s Vikings team have just finished competing in the prestigious ISSY CUP in Paris France. A competition for open teams, the junior Vikings have gone over with only one senior Vikings player… Andre Gacesa. There results were 1-0 loss, 6-1 loss and 10-0 loss, followed by a 4-0 loss in the 7th/8th playoff. Our one goal was scored by Ray Mortenson.

The girls performed slightly better with a 3-0 loss to ISSY CLUB but followed up with a 10-0 win.

Vikings have been asked to, and certainly will, send teams again next year.

A special surprise was the naming of our own BRIAN KEIGHTLEY as ‘COACH OF THE TOURNAMENT’.
Thank you to Jerome at France Futsal and to all the members of the ISSY CLUB. We will be putting photos of the trip on the website when Brian returns on Thursday.

NFC MEETING THIS WEEKEND
The National Futsal Commission meets this weekend in Sydney. Although there are many agenda items, it is hoped a Final decision on the 2003 National School titles will be made. Queensland are keen to run it in Toowoomba, and have out it up for acceptance.

SOCCER ENQUIRY
The Senate Soccer Enquiry has started its hearings around the country and was two weeks ago in Brisbane. The enquiry will also be taking into account the operations of Futsal, in its findings, which are due out April next year. The final paper will be a blueprint for the management of all forms of soccer at National level, which will then have to be accepted by the stakeholders of Soccer Australia.

WARWICK CLUB ON ITS WAY
Warwick, a city situated two hours southwest of Brisbane , finally has Futsal underway. I was there on Thursday night for competition at the two court stadium, and they already have 26 teams, including a ten team men’s A grade.
By the way, if you ever stop in Warwick, make sure you stay at the HORSE AND JOCKEY HOTEL/MOTEL. No, they haven’t paid for an ad on this site but the owner of the hotel , MELINDA TAIT, tells me she has been playing futsal for 4 years and is loving it. Her team ( she’s a ‘ring in’ for the Warwick police team) were beaten 19-2 on the night I was there but she still came up smiling. Her husband Mick doesn’t play but they certainly will welcome any soccer/Futsal people to town.
The phone number of the hotel is 46610600 if you want to book ahead.

(PS WE ARE PLANNING TO TAKE THE OPEN MEN AND WOMEN TO WARWICK FOR A TRAINING CAMP THE WEEKEND OF 14TH/15TH DECEMBER AND WILL CERTAINLY BE USING THE HOTEL)

HUMOUR

WHO WANTS TO BE A FOOTBALL MANAGER ?
(from the football.rivals site)
"What got me thinking overnight is that a lady came up to me five minutes before the end of the game. She said to me 'Terry, you are a nice fellow but do the best thing for this club and quit'." - – Terry Yorath on why he quit Sheffield Wednesday as manager.

REFEREES QUIZ QUESTION
1. A goalkeeper, in throwing the ball out puts his foot over the front of the penalty area while still in control of the ball, but releases the ball before IT passes over the penalty area line. What is the referees decision if any ?

2. A goalkeeper, in controlling the ball, steps back over the back touchline, WHILE KEEPING THE BALL WITHIN THE PENALTY AREA. What is the referees decision if any ?

(I would like some interpretations on this so please write in with an opinion)

QUIZ QUESTIONS

Bernd Strang, the ex coach of Perth Glory national soccer league team has just taken over as national soccer coach of which nation ? (clue…he has a clause in the contract that the contract is cancelled if war breaks out).

Kasey Wehrmann (Moss, Norway soon to be Lillestrom), Michael Turnbull (Sydney Marconi), Michael Baird (South Melbourne) and Laurence Drake (Brisbane Strikers) are all national league professional soccer players (or in Kasey’s case higher) from four different clubs. But what do they have in common Futsal wise ?

THAT’S ALL FOLKS…..SEE YOU NEXT WEEK
