Futsal league and beach football carnival to kick off next month

PETALING JAYA: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) will kick off their inaugural Felda National Futsal League and national beach football carnival next month.

The chairman of the futsal committee, Hamidin Mohd Amin, said that the four-month League scheduled for Oct 30-Feb 23 would feature 24 teams in both the men's and women's competitions.

The teams will vie for three titles – FAM-Felda League Cup (six-group preliminary rounds of four teams each), Futsal Cup (knockout competition) and Premier Cup (involving the six group winners).

Hamidin said at a press conference at the Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya yesterday that the three competitions offered a total of RM213,000 in prize money.

The teams involved are the 14 affiliates, Police, Armed Forces and club sides from the Malaysian Super League (MSL) – Johor FC, Kuala Muda Naza, Proton FC, UPB-MyTeam FC, KL Plus FC, Shahzan Muda, PKNS and Felda United

Hamidin added that Felda had committed RM9 million for three seasons and the official launch of the League would be held at the Felda Headquarters in Jalan Gurney after Hari Raya.

Hamidin also announced that the national beach football carnival would be held in Telok Chempedak in Kuantan from Oct 16-19.

He said the 20-team tournament was open to all their affiliates, Police, Armed Forces and four clubs on a first-come-first-serve basis. Players in the MSL are also eligible to compete.
