THE 2008 Guam Football Association Men's Futsal League semifinal playoffs were held this past Saturday at the Guam Sports Complex in Harmon, according to league coordinator Muni Abdullah. The playoffs were essentially an automatic final four as only the top four regular season teams were allowed into the playoffs.
Semifinal 1: Strykers vs. Yamasa CobrasIn a hard fought match, the top ranked Strykers defeated the Yamasa Cobras by a two goal margin. Yamasa Cobra Roy Abril did all he could to keep his squad in the mix as he finished the game with a hat trick. Jan Jason Flores was unable to score any goals for the Cobras in the all important semifinal match. The Cobras were also without the league's top scorer Ashton Surber, who left island to join the Air Force.
In the victory, the Strykers Christian Dickson, Hiro Asoshina and Mike Cruz ended the match with two, two and one goal.
Semifinal 2: Quality vs. Crushers Orange In the second semifinal match, the Crushers Orange and Quality pleased all spectators with a goal scoring extravaganza that resulted in 11 goals. When the smoke cleared, Quality came out victorious as they squeaked by the Crushers, 6-5.
Quality's David Manibusan, Byung Choi, Jin Tao and Alan Jamison contributed two, one, one and one goal. The Crushers Eliseo Zamarron scored three goals for his hat trick, while Camden Aguon and Ervin Martinez tacked on one goal a piece. Quality's sixth goal came as an own goal's off a Crushers error.
