Brothers Union lift futsal title

DHAKA: Brothers Union lifted the maiden futsal title in Bangladesh when they overcame Abahani 4-3 in a thrilling final on Monday.

Bangladesh Football Federation organised the tournament for eight Dhaka-based Bangladesh League teams and it became an instant success.

A quick brace by Abdullah Parvez in the eighth and 10th minutes gave Brothers Union a 2-0 lead and Ariful made it 3-0 in the 16th minute. Zahid Hasan Emily and Mamunul Islam reduced the deficit in the next two minutes and substitute Abul leveled the scores for Abahani in the 31st minute. Matiur Munna netted the winner two minutes from time to give Brothers Union the title.

Abdullah Parvez, who was adjudged player of the tournament, said: “I feel proud to win this award as well as for my team to win this competition. I think futsal should be played regularly at the start of a season to enhance the players' skill and fitness.”

BFF president Kazi Salahuddin vowed to expand the event in the future saying, “We hope to include more teams and organise the tournament in a bigger scale in the future. We are looking forward to introduce futsal in the grassroots."
