Futsal Finals!

Saturday, 13 September 2008

On 27 and 28 September, The FA will stage the National Futsal Playoff Finals at Loughborough University.

The game of Futsal is the FIFA and UEFA format of five-a-side football and is famous for the speed and skill with which the game is played.

The Tournament draws together the top two teams from The FA’s three Elite Regional Leagues and these six teams will contest for the right to become National Champions, qualifiers for the 2009 UEFA Futsal Cup and win £5,500 in prize money.

This will be the first time that the Tournament has been staged and reflects The FA’s commitment to support and popularise a game that has great potential to contribute to the technical development of young players.

Players such as Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Deco and Robinho all played Futsal in their younger years and credit it for contributing to the development of ball skills that have seen them reach the heights of world football.

The qualification process for the Play Offs is still taking place, but the final six teams will reflect the international nature of Futsal with a large number of Brazilian, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian and Iranian players represented. The result will be difficult to predict with little to separate the favourites – London White Bear, Ipswich Wolves and Helvecia, who were all involved in this year's FA Futsal Cup finals and highlights of that competition can be seen above.

The Tournament will be staged at the Loughborough University Arena with the support of Leicestershire County FA. The competition begins at 10.00am on Saturday and runs right through to 9.30pm with six games scheduled. The second day of the Tournament begins at 9.00am with the Final scheduled for 5.30pm.

Tickets are available on the door, at just £3 for Adults and free entry for children.
