UEFA.comRussia draw Italy in futsal U21 finalsWednesday 17 September 2008Hosts Russia will take on Italy in the inaugural UEFA European Under-21 Futsal Tournament after the draw for the first finals were made.
Inaugural competitionThe competition will be played at St Petersburg's Yubileiny Palace of Sport from 8 to 14 December and Russia have been placed in Group A along with Croatia and Slovenia as well as Italy, who shared the best record in qualifying alongside Spain. Group B will contain senior European and World champions Spain, and they will face off against Ukraine, the Netherlands and Kazakhstan, who are in their first national-team final tournament since joining UEFA.
Schedule to followThe draw was made at the Hotel Park Inn in St Petersburg and attended by UEFA Executive Committee member Dr Joseph Mifsud, Russian Football Union general secretary Alexei Sorokin, Viacheslav Chazov – the head of the St Petersburg Sport and Physical Culture Committee – and former FC Zenit St. Petersburg footballer and national team futsal player Boris Chukhlov. The full match schedule will be confirmed later.
