The U.S. has been drawn into Group B of the contest. The global competition will kick off for the U.S. on Sept. 30 against Paraguay. On Oct. 2, the U.S. will face Italy; on Oct. 4, Thailand will be the opposition; and on Oct. 6, Portugal will round out group play.
“I'm excited about the team that we're taking to Brazil," coach Keith Tozer said. "We are a young team, not only in age but in experience. However, at the same time we are a talented team that can only get better the deeper we go."
Of the 14 players, 12 play for squads that were part of the Major Indoor Soccer League that disbanded in May. The new National Indoor Soccer League attained four teams: Baltimore, Monterrey (Mexico), Philadelphia and Orlando. Many of the other MISL teams have moved to the new Xtreme Soccer League. Stockton, formerly California, is in the new Professional Arena Soccer League.
