Due to a capricious draw the Caribbean nation will play in the same group that the specialists favourite, host Brazil, as well as Japan, Russia and Salomon Islands.
In statements to CAN, Victor Aragon, Vice-President of Cuba’s Football Association, said that “Considering what we saw in the training games against the Arzignano Grifo Italian club and against the Paraguayan national team, we have to improve our game in the last minutes of every match, because we start aggressively and then lose steam” “I think we are ready to reach our first victory in World Championships, even at our debut on the 30th against Salomon Islands, and I also think we can beat Japan” “To beat Brazil is almost impossible, that is why our goal is to beat Rusia, since only the first two teams pass to the next round”, declared Aragon.
In the last world tournament, Taipei 2004, Cuba lost its three games in the preliminary round: 8-3 against Iran, 5-0 against Portugal and 3-0 against Argentina.
