Antigua SunOrganisers pleased with first Futsal stagingFriday September 26 2008BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) – Organisers are hailing the first Barbados Futsal tournament as a huge success, and are promising a bigger event in coming years.
Brian Corbin, head of the tournament’s organizing committee, noted that it was a “good start” and said most of the players and spectators were delighted with the outcome.
“We had a good crowd for the final and everyone was excited. The players were also happy and as it was the first time. We are happy.”
Spartans FC won the tournament with a 5-2 victory in the final over Boca Juniors at the Garfield Sobers Complex.
The star for Spartans was former national player Barry Skeete, who netted a hat-trick. Skeete’s goals came in the eighth, 30th and 38th minutes, while the other strikes for the winners came from former national captain Gregory Goodridge and an own goal.
Absolut Santos walked away with the third-place trophy after one of the best performances of the tournament, coming from 4-1 down at half time to defeat The Real Boca Juniors 10-7.
