Russia Beats Cuba in Futsal World Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 2 (acn) Third-place at the European championships Russia opened their campaign at the Futsal World Cup, underway in Brazil, beating Cuba 10-5 this Thursday.

The Europeans offered up superior technique and tactics to their Caribbean counterparts, who fought gamely despite being overmatched.

Some good luck helped the Russians to open the score when Mesa (Cuba) sent the ball inside its own goal. From then on the game belonged to the Russians with four goals in the next 3 minutes (Shayakhmetov, Maevskiy, Prudnikov, Cirilo).

On the 15th minute Madrigal scored Cuba’s first goal in a game where constant bruises, that cost Kobzar and Dushkevich yellow cards. Two minutes later Mesa closed the gap with another goal and Russia moved all its forces into attack. But Dushkevichv received a second yellow card and had to leave the game for card accumulation.

The match then became a rollercoaster, with both teams trying to score, unsuccessfully, till Khamadiev restored Russia’s peace of mind with a great goal that showed his superb skill, followed by Cirilo’s second goal.

Mesa scored twice more, and Morales once, but the Russians Pula, twice and the second from Shayametov to secure the victory for the Euro- Asian team.

Now Cuba has 3 points, the same amount of Russia but with one more game placed, after its victory against Salomón Island who lost this same day to Brazil 0-21.

Brazil leads the group A, while Paraguay does in group B.
