Iran Futsal grabs first win in 2nd round

Vahid Shamsaee and Mohammad Taheri score two goals each to seal Iran's first win in the second round of the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

In its second match in Group F, Iran defeated Ukraine 5-4 on Sunday, after the European outfit took a convincing 2-0 lead early in the game.

Iran bounced back with captain Shamsaee's penalty-kick in the 9th minute. The Iranian veteran then leveled the game in the 10th minute when his shot deflected off Ukraine's Fedir Pylypiv and touched the back of the net.

Iran was awarded a second penalty-kick in the 12th minute and Shamsaee took the opportunity to give the lead to his men.

Mohammad Taheri scored Iran's fourth goal before the end of the first half, while Ukraine managed to respond to two goals in the 14th and 19th minutes.

The two teams displayed a passionate performance in the second half as Ukraine managed to score a goal in the 36th minute.

In the other match of Group F, Brazil sealed a 3-0 victory over Italy.

Iran will face Italy on Tuesday in Brasilia to fight for a berth in the semi-finals.

Iran on edge of futsal final four
TEHRAN, Oct. 12 (MNA)--Iran defeated Ukraine 5-4 in the second match of the second round of the Futsal World Cup on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro.

Iran rallied from two goals down to earn a valuable 5-4 victory over Ukraine in Group E.

Makayev put Ukraine ahead in the 6th minute. Cheporniuk doubled the score in the 9th minute.

Iran took control of the match and fought back to score four times. Vahid Shamsaee gave Iran two goals in 10th and 13th minutes. An own goal by Pylypiv put Iran ahead afterwards and Mohammad Taheri’s excellent shot went past Ukraine’s keeper in the 15th minute.

Khursov from Ukraine passed Iran’s keeper Mostafa Nazari in the 16th minute. Taheri scored once again seconds before the interval.

The second half had just a sole goal. Makayev kept the Ukrainian team hopes alive in the 37th minute but this match eventually concluded 5-4.

Iran will play Italy on Tuesday in a must-win game. The Asian reigning futsal champions have to beat Italy to reach the final four.
