Press TVIran misses Futsal World Cup semis Tue, 14 Oct 2008 Iran's national futsal team fails to reach the world cup semifinals despite drawing with Italy in its third match in the second round.
Iran did not have two of its key players, Vahid Shamsaee and Mohammad Keshavarz, in the match against the Azzurri, which ended in a 5-5 draw.
Grana (2,9), Nora (14), Fabiano (31) and Bertoni (40) scored for Italy while Daneshvar (11,36), Masoudi (13), Hashemzadeh (27) and Hassanzadeh (29) were Iran's scorers.
Iran lost 1-0 to three-time world champion Brazil in its first match in the second round on Saturday and beat Ukraine 5-4 on Sunday.
In the same group, Brazil defeated Ukraine 5-3 to stand in first place. Despite Iran and Italy both having four points, the Italian squad went to the semifinals due to a better goal difference.
According to an online poll by the world's football governing body, FIFA, Iran has been voted as the most impressive team in the world cup after brilliant performances in the first round, holding Spain to a 3-3 draw and winning its three remaining matches against Libya, Uruguay and the Czech Republic.
