PHILIP LILOMOTHE Gizo futsal league was officially opened by in a ceremony held at the J.F Kennedy at the Gizo Township.
The President of Western Football Association (WFA), Robert Riqeo, officially opened the futsal league for 2008.
Robert Riqeo and the coordinator of sport and youth of the Western Province government were guests of honour at the opening ceremony.
Chairman of the Gizo futsal committee, Mr. Seri Hite, thanked the Western Province government for its assistance of $2000.
“My committee will put it into good use,” said Hite who is a keen follower of football development in the Western Province.
The chairman also thanked the President of WFA for his support as well as indicating areas where Gizo futsal can benefit from its program of events and actions.
A total of eleven teams have registered for the Gizo 2008 Futsal League which was started on the 10th of October.
Three teams are in the under 15 category and eight teams in the under 12 category.
Dingo won the first Futsal match of Gizo 2008 Futsal League. They beat the Kangaroos in the under-15 category.
