GUAM Football Association Bud Light Women’s Futsal League action continued yesterday at the Guam Sports Complex in Harmon. In the first match of the day scheduled at 1 p.m., Quality took on Hyundai. Aubre Salas nearly scored a goal in the opening moments of the match, but shot just left of the goal. In the 21st minute, Hyundai’s Shana Spindel booted in the first goal of the match to nab the slim lead over Quality. About a minute later, Hyundai earned a 2-0 advantage after a scored goal from Tanya Blas-Cruz. With 4:56 remaining in the half, Hyundai’s Rosann Meeks kicked the ball past the Quality keeper for her team’s third consecutive goal.
Hyundai picked up right where they left off as Salas would not be denied a place on the stat sheet with a goal scored that put her team ahead of Quality, 4-0. Staying focused on trying to make a comeback, Quality’s Paige Surber got her team on the board when she bulleted in a goal from 15-feet out, pulling her team back to within three points of Hyundai. Nine minutes later, Quality’s Estelle Alig scored her team’s second goal, but it was too little to mount a comeback as Hyundai stiffened on the defensive end to seal the 4-2 victory.
In other action, Guam Shipyard won via forfeit against DeYo. In the 3 o’clock match, the Crushers Orange and Bombers battled their way to a 7-7 draw. The Bombers led the Crushers, 5-1, but couldn’t stave off the Crusher’s rally. With both teams deadlocked at seven goals a piece, neither team was able to score the all important tie breaking goal. Information was provided by GFA Deputy Chairperson of Women’s Football, Cheri Stewart.
