ST PAUL'S Grammar School futsal coach Michael Jeffery said it was a complete shock to claim the under14s National Futsal Championships during the October school holidays.
Using the home-ground advantage at Penrith Indoor Stadium to full effect, St Paul's went through the competition undefeated, beating Epping Boys High School 6-4 in the final.
``They were just very determined to win and determined to help each other,'' Jeffery said. ``All the team played well, especially captain Geordy Armsworth, Cameron Spanner, who scored over 20 goals and first-time goalkeeper Ben Mayer.''
The Penrith school made amends for their defeat in the final at the NSW titles, cruising through the group stages, with victories over St Marks(9-2), Wingham High (12-1), Epping Boys (5-4), Victoria (7-6), Callagham College (9-0) and a tight 5-5 draw against The Hills Sports High. Surviving a tough semi-final against Victoria (2-1), St Paul's reigned supreme in the final, to clinch their first national futsal title.
