FAI Futsal Web PortalWomen's Futsal League Finals DayWednesday, 26 November 2008The women's Futsal league finals day was held in Palmerstown on Saturday November 22nd. The final gave a much deserved tournament win to Shantella Rovers FC who beat Balbriggan 4- 0 in the final and became the first team to lift the inaugural Woman's Futsal Cup.
The four teams that battled it out on the day were Shantella, who beat St Pats in the first semi-final, and Balbriggan, who beat St Catherine’s in the second semi final. The competition brought a broad range of teams together and the level of football was extremely high. Other participating teams narrowly missed out on playoff spots on the final day.
League administrator Vicky Fisher said, “The day was a great success with great football played by all teams. I was very happy with the whole competition from start to finish. Futsal is an extremely fast, skilled 5 --side game and I would encourage more ladies’ teams to get involved in the next competition that will be held early in 2009. There has been huge demand from the girls for another competition! I also want to thank all the teams for their commitment and everyone who helped me out, with a special thank you to Emma Martin - FAI Women’s Development Officer, Paul Cleary – FAI National Coordinator for Women’s Football and Noel King – Manager, Irish Senior Women’s Team for their help on finals day. Another big thank you goes to Derek O’Neill for driving the competition as part of the FAI’s Futsal Development Plan. I am sure that we can improve the competition in the future and look forward to holding another one very soon.
